Evaluation of musicians’ (2021) and staff development (2023), to increase the organisation’s knowledge of training needs, engagement opportunities and development pathways for musicians and staff working with young people within the criminal justice system. DIY Theatre. 4×8 Project Evaluation (2023). Evaluation of pilot project model and team development pathways for learning disabled performers. Recommendations to support the organisation’s growth and future development. Individual interviews, session observations, observation of team reflection activity led by the organisation.
City of London Sinfonia. Practical Approaches: Developing Musicians’ Responsive Practice, in “FROM BINGO TO BARTOK”: Creative and Innovative Approaches to Involving Older People with Orchestras (2019). Case study highlighting organisation’s good practice approach. Interviews with organisation staff and musicians, written article for sector dissemination.
City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. MUSIC & ABILITY (2018 – 2021). Project Consultant & Evaluation design. External adviser, commissioned to help the organisation evaluate current practice model for projects with children and young people with additional needs. Providing key learning targets and recommendations, development of strategic plan for development of organisational approach and increase in musician team numbers over a 3 year period. Observation of musician sessions with learners in 3 special schools, facilitation of creative and reflective sessions for musician and educational teams, interviews with musicians, teachers, parents and senior leadership teams from participating schools. Written report, case studies, milestone evaluation, development of musician skills and competencies through programme of creative workshops and reflective sessions.
Musical Mentoring, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital (2017). Programme Evaluation. External evaluator of music programme for children and young people covering 97 ward based sessions – observation of sessions, interviews with patients, families, staff and musicians, recommendations for future programme, documentation of project impact.
Music and the Deaf (MatD). The Frequalise Report (2016). Project Evaluation. External evaluator, commissioned to support the organisation’s learning from a pilot project using new music technology in music making sessions with Deaf children and young people. Observation of sessions in schools and after school projects, interviews with young people, MatD musicians and staff team, support staff and teachers of the Deaf. Written evaluation for dissemination within the sector to improve knowledge and awareness of Deaf young people making music, presentation of findings and recommendations for future programme.
