Formed in 2019, Songbirds Music UK is a community-based organisation dedicated to improving the experiences of children and young people affected by acute or long-term hospitalisation, health challenges and disability in the northwest of England.
Co-founded by Ros and her music partner Mark Fisher, who as Co-directors are joined by third director Juliet Goldbart, Professor Emeritus , School of Psychology Faculty of Health and Education at Manchester Metropolitan University, Songbirds Music UK delivers training to early career musicians, medical and nursing students as part of an ongoing creative music programme of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, engaging young people from the hospital Youth Service in creative, consultation, evaluation and music making activities, and works with families of young people with additional needs from Salford in a bespoke online music programme.
“Yesterday the Songbirds came round the ward. It was beautiful and so emotional. You have lifted our spirits and I’m sure [my child] was listening. Thanks so much for everything you are doing at the hospital. You are beautiful and talented people, that song will live with me forever.”
